Cleveland Browns’ star running back Nick Chubb is expected to miss the remainder of the season following a severe knee injury he sustained during a Monday night game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After the game, Browns Coach Kevin Stefanski expressed concern for Chubb’s condition, stating, “Nick has suffered a significant knee injury. He’s not only a tremendous football player but also a remarkable person, and we will be there to support him throughout his recovery.”
The injury occurred in the second quarter when Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick tackled Chubb, causing his left knee to twist inward, as reported by NFL.com. Chubb immediately signaled distress and received prompt medical attention, ultimately being carted off the field and ruled out of the game.
Stefanski was uncertain about the exact extent of the damage to the 27-year-old Georgia native’s knee when asked about the number of torn ligaments. However, he expressed a grim outlook, saying, “I anticipate Nick will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.”
This isn’t the first time Chubb has faced a knee injury; he previously injured the same knee during his college career in Georgia in 2015, resulting in tears to his MCL, LCL, and PCL, according to ESPN.
Teammate Myles Garrett acknowledged the impact of Chubb’s absence, stating in a postgame press conference, “It’s a significant loss for the entire team, and we’re determined to honor his injury by pushing forward. That’s what he would want, and if he had a say, that’s what he’d do. We must continue to persevere and use this as motivation.”
Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson shared his sentiments, saying, “It was undeniably tough. He may not wear the ‘C’ on his jersey, but he’s a captain, a leader, and embodies the spirit of this team, city, and organization. We have some big shoes to fill for him.”
Social media flooded with well-wishes for Chubb from fellow athletes and fans alike. LeBron James tweeted, “DAMN MAN!!!! Nick Chubb. Praying for the absolute best.”
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson also sent his prayers, and Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrote, “Love you Nick…Prayers up.” Former teammate Odell Beckham Jr. added, “Prayin for My brother Chubb.”
