Patrick Mahomes has recently addressed the controversy surrounding his teammate, Harrison Butker.
Last week, Butker sparked significant backlash after comments made during a speech at Benedictine College in Kansas, where he criticized Pride Month and discussed traditional gender roles, calling them “a sin.”
The remarks led to over 200,000 people signing a petition demanding Butker’s removal from the Kansas City Chiefs. In response, Mahomes defended his kicker, highlighting the value of personal opinions and dialogue.
“I’ve known [Harrison] for seven years and I judge him by the character that he shows every single day. And that that’s a good person.” “That’s someone who cares about the people around him, cares about his family, and wants to make a good impact in society.”
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also supported Butker while addressing the media. “I don’t think he was speaking ill of women, but he has opinions and we all respect that. I let you guys in this room and you have a lot of opinions that I don’t like,” Reid remarked, emphasizing respect for diverse viewpoints within the team. “We all have different opinions and get along…we respect everyone to have a voice, that’s the great thing about America.”
From the statements made, it appears that the Chiefs have no plans to release Butker in the near future.
