In a recent survey conducted by ESPN, 103 NFL players were asked to share their opinions on the current crop of quarterbacks in the league. The questions ranged from naming the top quarterbacks to identifying who they believe is the most overrated.
The most surprising result of the survey was the player voted as the “most overrated quarterback.” While eight different quarterbacks received at least six votes, it was Josh Allen who topped the list, garnering 11 votes in total. Following closely behind were Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, who each received 10 votes.
Although 11 votes out of 103 may not seem like a strong consensus, it does provide some insight into how Allen is perceived among his peers. The survey also revealed where Allen ranked when players were asked to list their top three quarterbacks. The voting system awarded three points for a first-place vote, two points for a second-place vote, and one point for a third-place vote.
Here were the top vote-getters for the most overrated quarterback:
1. Allen (11)
T2. Hurts (10)
T2. Tagovailoa (10)
Kansas City Chiefs’ superstar Patrick Mahomes dominated the rankings, earning 294 points and solidifying his status as the league’s top quarterback in the eyes of his fellow players. Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson followed with 124 points, securing the second spot. Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow, who missed part of last season due to a hand injury, received 51 points, placing him ahead of Allen, who ranked fourth with 39 points. Even New York Jets’ Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a season-ending injury after just four snaps, came in close behind Allen with 32 points, finishing fifth.

Allen’s fourth-place ranking and his position as the most overrated quarterback, according to the survey, contrast sharply with his recent accomplishments. He has finished in the top five of MVP voting in three of the last four seasons. Despite this, some of his peers don’t see him as one of the league’s top three quarterbacks.
However, knowing Josh Allen’s competitive spirit, it’s likely that he won’t be too bothered by the survey results. After all, he recently shrugged off being labeled as “underpaid,” suggesting that he may take this latest assessment with a similar level of indifference.
