Unaware of the storm brewing online, Williams cheerfully waved to the camera, showcasing his pink accessories.
However, his innocent choices ignited a firestorm of criticism from sports fans across the nation, with many taking to social media platforms to unleash homophobic remarks and derogatory comments.
Among the disparaging remarks, some referred to Williams as “sassy” and even went as far as suggesting he change his name to “Gayleb Williams.” Despite the onslaught of negativity, one prominent voice came to Williams’ defense: Kyle Brandt, a host of “Good Morning Football” and a noted Chicago Bears enthusiast.
Expressing his frustration with the homophobic comments, Brandt passionately defended Williams during a segment on the NFL Network show, condemning the antiquated views perpetuated by online critics. He highlighted the absurdity of labeling Williams’ choices as “red flags” and emphasized the evolving landscape of personalities and perspectives within the NFL.
Brandt also debunked the notion that Williams is “too Hollywood for the NFL,” drawing from his own experiences living in Los Angeles in his twenties. He empathized with Williams’ unconventional choices, citing the quarterback’s long-standing tradition of painting his nails as a tribute to his mother, a nail technician.
