The NFL has opened an investigation following an incident in which Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown had a drink thrown on him by a fan after the team’s 34-24 victory over the Carolina Panthers. The win marked the Bengals’ first triumph of the season, with Brown playing a crucial role by scoring two touchdowns.
As the 24-year-old running back exited the field at Bank of America Stadium, video footage captured the moment when a clear liquid was poured over his head from the stands above.
Despite the disrespectful act, Brown did not confront the fan and continued walking calmly toward the visitor’s locker room. Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki, who was nearby at the time, glanced back at the scene but appeared unfazed and walked on without reacting.
In response to the incident, the NFL confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify the individual responsible. Michael Thomas, a representative of the NFL Players Association, emphasized the seriousness of the matter in a statement to ESPN. “We’ll see if we can identify the person and then we’ll go from there,” Thomas said. “But that should never happen to a player.”

Brown himself reflected on the incident after reviewing the footage and expressed his surprise. “I was walking in [and] I felt the liquid or whatever, and then when I saw the video back, I’m like, ‘Damn, that’s really what happened,'” Brown said. He further addressed fans, asking for respect: “Please don’t pour drinks on us. I mean, nobody wants that.”
If the person responsible is identified, they could face significant consequences, including a potential lifetime ban from NFL games. The league has strict policies regarding fan conduct, and unruly behavior such as this could lead to severe penalties for those involved.
This isn’t the first time the Carolina Panthers have been involved in a similar situation. In January, team owner David Tepper was caught on camera throwing a drink on a Jacksonville Jaguars fan from his luxury suite. The incident resulted in Tepper being fined, and he later issued an apology. However, no official punishment has been announced yet for the fan involved in the latest incident at Sunday’s game.
As the NFL continues its investigation, the incident serves as a reminder of the league’s commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for players and fans alike.
Chase Brown’s composure in the face of the disrespectful act has been praised, but the focus remains on finding the individual responsible and taking appropriate action.
