Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles couldn’t help but laugh when discussing the Atlanta Falcons’ draft choice on Thursday night.
Poles reacted with a chuckle when asked about the Falcons selecting Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick, a decision that led to the Bears securing wide receiver Rome Odunze with the ninth pick.
“I’m just happy it worked out that way,” Poles said, expressing satisfaction with how the draft unfolded for his team.

The Falcons had the opportunity to pick wide receiver Rome Odunze, which would have provided quarterback Kirk Cousins with another weapon. However, their decision to go with Penix Jr. opened the door for the Bears to draft Odunze, who is now poised to become a key playmaker for Chicago.
Odunze will join an offensive lineup that includes the talents of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the first overall pick in the draft, as well as established wide receivers Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore. The Bears also boast a strong running back duo with D’Andre Swift and Khalil Herbert.
With these pieces in place, the Bears’ offense is shaping up to be an exciting unit this upcoming season, particularly if Williams delivers a strong performance in his rookie year.
