It has been widely believed that 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels out of LSU will be selected second overall by the Washington Commanders in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft.
DraftKings Sportsbook currently has Daniels as the favorite to go second overall at -170.
However, NFL executives reportedly believe that a different quarterback will be selected by the Commanders with the second overall pick.
Despite being listed on DraftKings Sportsbook at +800 to be drafted second overall, Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is now being rumored as an option for the Commanders with the second overall pick.

“Wow: The belief amongst executives in the NFL who know #Commanders GM Adam Peters is that he will draft J.J. McCarthy at #2 overall.”
The fact that the sportsbooks have not made any adjustments with this news coming out may signal that this is simply a rumor, but it’s noteworthy nonetheless.
McCarthy has been shooting up draft boards recently with the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants reportedly being very interested in drafting McCarthy.
