It appears that not everyone is a fan of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Despite his emergence as one of the NFL’s marquee players since being drafted seventh overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, some continue to question his abilities, particularly his failure to lead the team to a Super Bowl appearance.
“One of the more overrated players in the NFL,” an unnamed executive commented about Allen during a conversation with Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. “Immense talent, but he makes a lot of mistakes. He’s underdeveloped at winning at the line of scrimmage, tends to lock on to targets, more of a thrower than a precision passer, forces throws into traffic.”
Fowler highlighted that Allen has accumulated a league-best 173 total touchdowns since the start of the 2020 regular season. However, this impressive statistic is tempered by the fact that Allen has also thrown a league-worst 57 interceptions over the same period.

“He leaves you wanting more a little bit,” another AFC executive added. “But if you’re picking who you want to lead your team, he’s going to be second or third for most people. The ceiling is still really high. And I don’t really feel he was the reason the Bills haven’t been able to finish.”
While Allen’s detractors focus on his mistakes and areas needing improvement, many in the NFL continue to recognize his talent and contributions. In the 2023 season, Allen ranked third among qualified players with an adjusted QBR of 69.6, highlighting his significant impact on the field.
“I saw a quarterback who is consistently a high performer who elevates his team at every chance,” another high-ranking NFL official noted in Fowler’s story.
