The New York Yankees may be scrambling ahead of the 2024 MLB season.
Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will undergo an MRI on his elbow and is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, according to manager Aaron Boone.
This development has led the Yankees to reportedly explore a trade for a starting pitcher.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Yankees have made a trade offer to the Chicago White Sox for 2022 Cy Young runner-up Dylan Cease.
Nightengale does note that the offer does not include outfield prospect Spencer Jones who is the team’s top prospect according to Fangraphs.
Cease will be looking to return to his Cy Young runner-up form in 2022 as he was 7-9 with a disappointing 4.58 ERA with the White Sox in 2023.
It should also be noted that 2023 Cy Young award winner Blake Snell remains unsigned and could be a possibility for the Yankees as well.
Snell was phenomenal for the San Diego Padres last season as he secured his second career Cy Young award with an MLB-best 2.25 ERA and 234 strikeouts over 180 innings pitched.
