Steve Cohen may have let something slip this week.
The New York Mets owner raised eyebrows on Wednesday with his post on X. Cohen responded to a fan blog post suggesting the Mets should blow it up, seemingly hinting that the Mets might be sellers at the trade deadline.
“All in the future,” Cohen wrote. “Not much we can do until the trade deadline.”
Here is the post, which Cohen sent in the middle of a game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Minutes later, Cohen deleted the post.

The Mets currently have the highest payroll in Major League Baseball at just under $308 million. That was also the case last year when they ended up selling several major pieces at the trade deadline, including Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, and David Robertson, as the season slipped away from them.
This season, the Mets are 19-23 but just one game out of the NL Wild Card race. It is too early to entertain the idea of blowing it up in the middle of May. However, if the Mets do decide to have another fire sale at the trade deadline, one particular big name may be the likeliest to go.
