The Mets are designating reliever Jorge López for assignment, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
This decision follows an incident where López threw his glove into the stands after a tough outing against the Dodgers.
Following the game, López expressed no regret over the incident and referred to the Mets as “the worst team in probably the whole f—-ing MLB,” as reported by SNY.

I asked Jorge Lopez if he regretted throwing his glove into the stands. Not only did he say no, he then called the Mets “the worst team in the whole f—cking MLB.” I later gave him a chance to clarify and he confirmed that’s what he meant.
Just an overall hilarious sequence of events
Jorge Lopez allows an absolute tank to Shohei Ohtani
Then gets tossed by the THIRD BASE UMPIRE arguing a check swing that was clearly the correct call
And then he proceeds to toss his GLOVE into the stands
López, a native of Puerto Rico, conducted his postgame media session in English.
Initially, there was confusion about whether he meant to call the Mets “the worst team” in the league or if he was referring to himself as “the worst teammate.”
When asked for clarification, López responded “probably” when asked if he had called the Mets the worst team.
MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo later tweeted that López clarified his remarks, indicating he intended to criticize both himself and the team — labeling himself as the worst teammate on what he considered the league’s worst team.
