Early on Sunday morning, New York Jets cornerback Tae Hayes found himself in legal trouble, having been arrested in Alabama.
The incident, first reported by ESPN NFL reporter Rich Cimini, involved Hayes being charged with marijuana possession, classified as a second-degree misdemeanor.
According to the records from the Trinity Police Department, Hayes was apprehended and subsequently booked into Morgan County jail at 3:46 AM.
He was released shortly thereafter, at 5:07 AM, upon posting a $300 bond. Details surrounding the circumstances of his arrest remain scant, as officials at the Morgan County jail have declined to provide further specifics.
Cimini relayed the response from the Jets organization regarding the matter: “A Jets spokesman said the team is aware of the situation and will refrain from further comment, as it is a pending legal matter.” This approach indicates the team’s cautious stance as they gather more information.

Hayes, who is 26 years old, has a background in football that traces back to his college days at Appalachian State.
Despite not being drafted after college, Hayes has carved out a career in the NFL, having played for several teams. His journey through the league has been that of a journeyman cornerback, participating in a total of 14 games over his career, including one game for the Jets last season.
This arrest comes at a pivotal time as the Jets are preparing for the upcoming NFL season, set to begin on September 9, when they face off against the 49ers.
The incident with Hayes could be a distraction as the team readies for the start of the 2024 season. As such, the Jets organization, teammates, and Hayes himself will likely be keen on resolving this matter swiftly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to their preparatory efforts.
