Another tragic incident unfolded in the stadium stands.
Authorities are currently investigating the untimely death of a man from New England who attended the Sunday night Patriots game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. The individual has been identified as 53-year-old Dale Mooney, originally from New Hampshire, according to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.
Massachusetts State Police have reported that Mooney experienced what appears to be a severe medical issue during the fourth quarter of the game. Initially, reports indicated that a Patriots fan had suffered a heart attack in the stands and a firefighter had heroically administered CPR in an attempt to save his life. However, it has come to light that this alleged heart attack might have been the result of a violent altercation.
Newly surfaced footage reveals that a Miami Dolphins fan was involved in an assault on Patriots fan Dale Mooney just prior to his medical crisis. Subsequently, Mooney was transported to the hospital, where he tragically passed away.
An eyewitness to the incident described the victim as being on the receiving end of a “vicious” punch that rendered him unresponsive for a duration of four to five minutes before medical assistance arrived to perform compressions.
Dale Mooney’s wife, Lisa, has asserted that her husband was subjected to taunts from several Dolphins fans throughout the game, leading to an alleged physical confrontation in the 300s section of the stadium. She firmly believes that video footage captured at Gillette Stadium will substantiate the fact that her husband did not initiate any physical aggression.
In an emotional interview with Boston 25, Lisa Mooney expressed her disbelief, stating, “Numb. I just feel numb. I just can’t even believe this is for real.”
Dale Mooney leaves behind two adult sons and was a devoted season ticket holder for three decades.
At present, there is no information regarding whether the fan or fans involved in the altercation have been apprehended, nor has responsibility been assigned for the tragic incident.
