Netflix is set to release a gripping new documentary about Connor Stalions, the former Michigan Wolverines assistant coach who became infamous for a sign-stealing scandal.
Announced on Monday, the documentary, titled “Sign Stealer,” will delve into the controversial events that led to Stalions’ dismissal and his transformation into a viral villain.
Scheduled for release on August 27, “Sign Stealer” will feature Connor Stalions sharing his perspective on the alleged sign-stealing scheme that rocked the college football world. Back in November 2023, Stalions released a statement through his attorney, Brad Beckworth, explaining his decision to leave Michigan. “As he informed the school earlier today, Connor chose to resign because recent stories regarding his time with the University of Michigan have created a distraction for the team,” Beckworth told The Athletic. “He hopes his resignation will help the team and coaching staff focus on tomorrow’s game and the remainder of the season. Connor also wants to make it clear that, to his knowledge, neither Coach Harbaugh nor any other coach or staff member instructed anyone to break any rules or were aware of improper conduct regarding the recent allegations of advanced scouting.”
Stalions expressed his gratitude and remorse in his own words: “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work with the incredible student-athletes, Coach Harbaugh, and the other coaches who have been part of the Michigan football family during my tenure. I do not want to be a distraction from what I hope to be a championship run for the team, and I will continue to cheer them on.”
Michigan had a remarkable season in 2023, finishing with an undefeated 15-0 record and clinching the national title. The team’s success, however, was overshadowed by the sign-stealing controversy that led to intense scrutiny and ultimately, Stalions’ departure.
