A rematch between the reigning MVP Joel Embiid and the reigning NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokic was highly anticipated as the Denver Nuggets hosted the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday afternoon.
However, fans were disappointed when Joel Embiid was a VERY late scratch for the game.

That’s NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that Embiid is out five minutes before the scheduled tip at 5:30 PM ET. Fellow starters for the 76ers, Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris, were ruled out earlier in the day.
What’s crazy is that Joel Embiid hasn’t played a game in Denver against the Nuggets since 2019! Of course, NBA fans had a field day with this on social media as the overwhelming theory is that Embiid is simply scared of Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets.
Nuggets fans even started a “Where’s Embiid?” chant at the game.
Unless Embiid and the 76ers meet Jokic and the Nuggets in the NBA Finals, fans will have to wait until the 2024-25 season to see Embiid lace them up in the Mile High City.
