The Los Angeles Dodgers have locked up their starting catcher, Will Smith, for the next ten years.
“BREAKING: Catcher Will Smith and the Los Angeles Dodgers are finalizing a 10-year, $140 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN.”
Smith has been with the Dodgers since 2019 and made his first All-Star game appearance for them in 2023.

Smith also captured a World Series title with the Dodgers in the COVID-shortened 2020 season and was named to the All-MLB Second Team in 2022.
The 28-year-old is regarded as one of the top offensive catchers in the MLB as he sports a career batting average of .261 to go along with 91 home runs and 306 runs batted in over parts of six seasons with the Dodgers.
In addition to being an impact bat in the Dodgers lineup, Smith grades out as a plus defensive catcher as well, according to Fangraphs.
The Dodgers have technically already opened their season as they have already played two games against the San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea, but they are set for their 2024 home opener on Thursday at Dodgers Stadium as they take on the St. Louis Cardinals.
