Multiple star running backs, including Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders, were unable to secure contract extensions with their respective teams before the deadline.
Recently, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed new information about the negotiations between Jacobs and the Raiders.
Pelissero stated that Jacobs was incredibly close to signing an extension with the team.
In fact, he was sitting in a car in the Raiders facility parking lot alongside teammate Maxx Crosby, ready to sign the deal if it went through.
“How close was Josh Jacobs to signing an extension with the #Raiders? He was sitting in a car in the parking lot of the #Raiders facility with teammate Maxx Crosby at the deadline, ready to sign if it got done. It didn’t, and now it’s unclear when the rushing champ will return.”

Unfortunately, it didn’t, leaving uncertainty about when the rushing champion will return to the field.
During the offseason, the Raiders placed the franchise tag on Jacobs, which comes with a price tag of $10.1 million for the 2023 season.
However, Jacobs has yet to put pen to paper and sign the contract.
He is coming off an exceptional year in 2022, where he amassed a career-high 1,653 rushing yards and scored 12 touchdowns on 340 carries across 17 games. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Jacobs and the Raiders after the failure to reach a contractual agreement.
