Pat McAfee expressed frustration with the media’s portrayal of the 2024 WNBA rookie class during his ESPN show on Monday.
He criticized the frequent references to the “great rookie class” and argued that the hype is predominantly due to one player, Caitlin Clark.
While acknowledging that Clark is part of a talented group that includes Cameron Brink and Angel Reese, McAfee emphasized that Clark, the No. 1 overall pick, is the primary draw increasing attention toward the WNBA. He pointedly remarked, “I would like the media people that continue to say, ‘This rookie class, this rookie class, this rookie class.’ Nah, just call it for what it is — there’s one white [expletive] for the Indiana team who is a superstar.”
McAfee, who broadcasts from Indianapolis, has been an advocate for women’s sports, particularly praising Caitlin Clark and women’s basketball.

Over the past weekend, the Indiana Fever, Clark’s team, secured a win against the Chicago Sky and suffered a loss to the New York Liberty.
It remains to be seen whether McAfee’s candid comments will prompt any reactions from his ESPN colleagues.
