Los Angeles Dodgers standout Yoshinobu Yamamoto has made an impressive start in his debut MLB season, though he recently fell victim to the infamous announcer jinx.
Heading into a Tuesday night game against the Miami Marlins, Yamamoto had racked up 15 consecutive scoreless innings. As he warmed up, MLB Network studio announcer Greg Amsinger playfully issued a “no-hitter alert.”
“Don’t take this the wrong way, but we are already on a no-hitter alert,” Amsinger announced. “Yoshinobu Yamamoto, before he throws a single pitch tonight against the Miami Marlins, we have a no-hitter alert. Enjoy what could be a no-hitter from Yamamoto.”

However, the very first pitch Yamamoto threw was hit by Marlins lead-off batter Chisholm for a home run to right-center field. This moment underscored the whimsical nature of Amsinger’s prediction.
Despite this early hiccup, attributed jokingly to the announcer’s curse, Yamamoto quickly regained his composure. He pitched eight strong innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs, leading the Dodgers to an 8-2 victory. Yamamoto improved his season record to 4-1 with a 2.79 ERA.
