Travis Adams, a Minnesota Twins draft pick, recently emerged as a hero in Fort Myers, Florida, where he was in town for spring training.
According to local news outlet WINK, the Fort Myers Fire Department responded to a call on Arlington Street just after 6 p.m. on Monday. Neighbors had hurried into the burning residence in an attempt to rescue anyone trapped inside.
Adams, who was lodging nearby and unfamiliar with the homeowner, sprang into action upon hearing a loud noise. Without hesitation, the 24-year-old rushed out to assess the situation.
“I ran and kind of asked if, like, anyone was in the house and whatnot,” Adams recounted. “Like no one knew and so me and the guy went to the front door and started like knocking on it. And like someone had to break in the front window. And, like, I think they knew who was in there. He was yelling ‘Howard, your house is on fire, get out.'”

Despite encountering difficulty with the front door, Adams persevered. With determination, he navigated around to a side door, dismantling a section of the fence to gain access. Alongside three other neighbors, Adams successfully evacuated Howard from the engulfed home.
While many have hailed Adams as a hero, he humbly deflects the label. “I don’t really think of myself as a hero, but just tried to do as much as possible and did the right thing,” he remarked.
Adams, drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round of 2021, has since been assigned to the Wichita Wind Surge, a Double-A affiliate team of the Twins, since April 2023.
