In the Monday Night Football clash between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury.
During a carry in the second quarter, Chubb’s knee took an awkward bend, resulting in significant damage to multiple areas. There was even a report about a possible amputation of his leg.
Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick broke his silence on the hit when speaking to reporters on Thursday.
“It’s unfortunate. “It’s a tough, tough injury. Unfortunately, it’s part of the game that we play. I know people think I had ill will behind the tackle. That’s not the case whatsoever,” he told reporters.
Watch him explain below:
“I’m a guy that is a competitor that’s going to go out there and play the game. I’m chippy. I’m edgy, of course. But I’m not a dirty player. I’m not going to sit here and defend my character. I know the type of player I am. Chubb knows the type of player I am. I played against him for the past five years, two times a year. I love competing against him. He brings the best out of me, and I bring the best out of him.”
Football is a physically demanding sport, which is why there are established safety protocols in place.
For defensive players, the objective is to hit their target in the correct zone, as adhering to these rules is essential in a game where injuries can occur.
