The NFL pulled a surprise move that caught everyone off guard.
For the 2024 season, the NFL has decided to schedule games on Christmas Day, despite it being in the middle of the week. Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s executive vice president of media distribution, announced the change in stance, citing the success of last season’s three Christmas games (Ravens-49ers, Chiefs-Raiders, and Giants-Eagles) which drew significant viewership.
But that wasn’t the only bombshell dropped. The entire Christmas week is now packed with games almost every day, including NCAA matchups.
Here’s how the schedule breaks down:
- December 25: NFL game
- December 26: NFL game
- December 28: NFL games
- December 29: NFL games
- December 30: NFL game
- December 31: College Football Quarterfinals
- January 1: College Football Quarterfinals

ESPN’s Mina Kimes had a noteworthy reaction, sharing a video on X where she jokingly informed her friends and family that she’d be “sick” in advance of that busy week.
As for the specific NFL matchups on Christmas Day, those details are still under wraps.
The decision to continue Christmas Day NFL games comes on the heels of their resounding success in 2023. The clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders pulled in a staggering 29.2 million viewers, marking the most-watched Christmas Day game in 34 years, as reported by The Sports Business Journal. Following closely was the game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, which attracted 27.1 million viewers, making it the second-most watched Monday Night Football game in 27 years.
In addition to the Christmas Day games, the NFL is expanding its international reach with matches in London, Germany, and Brazil. London will host three games, while the Carolina Panthers will take the spotlight in Germany.
