Travis Kelce’s aspiration of starring in the Top Gun franchise may be on hold as Miles Teller, who starred in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, hinted that the Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end might have to wait until he retires from the NFL.
Kelce is an avid movie fan with ambitions of acting and producing films that captivate audiences worldwide. Top Gun represents the pinnacle of what could be a promising new career.
However, Teller suggested that Kelce isn’t quite right for the role at the moment.
“You gotta be…there’s no pilot that looks like [Travis Kelce],” Teller commented at a mixed zone conference. “[He can play the role] when he retires and loses a bunch of muscle mass, then yeah, maybe.”

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing around 250 pounds, Kelce’s build is vastly different from that of a typical fighter jet pilot, who are generally smaller and lighter—more akin to Formula 1 drivers—due to the constraints of tiny cockpits and the need for optimal aerodynamics and speed.
While it is a movie, and audiences can suspend disbelief to some extent, the physical disparity is notable.
As of now, there is no concrete evidence linking Kelce to a role in a potential third film in the Top Gun series.
Kelce is just beginning his acting career, having appeared in FX’s Grotesquerie. Despite being new to the acting scene, he has reportedly impressed his colleagues, including Niecy Nash, Lesley Manville, and Courtney Vance.
“Since @killatrav came to play with us on set for a while (the acting chops are there),” director Larry McGhee posted on social media. “I told him in return, ‘I’ll be watching football this season. Let’s go, Kansas City Chiefs.'”
While a leading Hollywood role might be a few years away for Kelce, his performance in Grotesquerie has demonstrated his potential in the entertainment industry.
For now, fans will have to wait and see if Kelce’s acting career takes off after he hangs up his football cleats.
