Mike Tyson, renowned as “Iron Mike,” is undeniably one of the most formidable fighters in boxing history.
Yet, the former heavyweight champion admits to harboring a deep-seated fear when it comes to facing YouTube personality turned boxer Jake Paul. During an appearance on Sean Hannity’s show, Tyson candidly discussed his mindset leading up to their upcoming exhibition match this summer.
“I have a peculiar personality – some might say,” Tyson remarked. “Whenever I feel afraid of something, I confront it head-on. That’s just how I operate. I was apprehensive before my fight with Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. I was significantly overweight, and I was, what, 54, 53 years old? But I said to myself, ‘Let’s do it.’ Whenever I feel fear, I tackle it.”

Tyson elaborated that his current trepidation serves as a driving force behind his decision to return to the ring and face Paul.
“I’ve always believed that facing adversity and feeling nervousness propels me toward success,” the boxing icon continued. “If I didn’t experience these emotions, I wouldn’t be stepping into this fight. I need these feelings to compete. As the fight draws nearer, my anxiety diminishes because it becomes reality. And in reality, I feel unstoppable.”
Scheduled for July 20 at AT&T Stadium, Tyson’s showdown with Paul promises to be a highly anticipated event in the world of boxing.
