Mike McDaniel is responding to the viral story of how he met his wife.
Over the weekend, Al Michaels shared a tale in which McDaniel, during his tenure as a running backs coach in the UFL, supposedly told one of his players to cease dancing with a girl at a bar or risk being cut from the team. In a surprising turn of events, while the player was away, McDaniel engaged in dancing with the same girl, who would later become his wife.
“One of the running backs that he’s coaching is dancing with a girl, and Mike says, listen, you’re not dancing with her anymore, or you’re not playing with this team next year.”
“So McDaniel starts dancing with her…four years later, they’re married.”

During the Dolphins’ weekly press conference on Monday, McDaniel clarified aspects of the story.
Firstly, McDaniel wanted to emphasize that he and the player were aware he was joking when he made the remark about cutting him if he didn’t stop dancing with the girl.
“The perceived threat that I made to a player was over the top, a joke. Considering he and I knew each other as a running back coach, I had no ability to say if he was there or not; it was more in jest.”
Additionally, McDaniel wanted to dispel any notion that he stole someone’s girl.
“My wife was telling me that people are talking about me stealing people’s girls…the dude had met her for 45 seconds…I feel like I was painted out to be kind of a d-bag, and it wasn’t like that at all.”
Mike McDaniel unquestionably stands out as one of the most intriguing, if not the most intriguing, coaches in the NFL.
