Jim Harbaugh appears to be the center of public attention in the midst of the Michigan cheating controversy.
The Michigan football program remains under investigation for alleged illegal sign stealing, raising questions about Jim Harbaugh’s future in Ann Arbor.
Conflicting reports have emerged regarding Michigan’s dealings with Harbaugh, with some suggesting an extension is in the works, while others claim that any new offer has been rescinded. Meanwhile, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum believes the seasoned coach is on a path back to the NFL.

On a recent episode of Get Up, Finebaum elaborated on his theory, which includes reference to a purported strained relationship between Harbaugh and his superior, athletic director Warde Manuel.
“That is my opinion based on so many mitigating factors,” Finebaum said. “The one thing Jim Harbaugh has in his favor is that the fairly new president at the university is a big Harbaugh fan – even maybe a sycophant. The athletic director is not, though. Warde Manuel? He and Harbaugh have had a very tense relationship.
“I think Jim Harbaugh has to be smart enough, and he’s a really bright guy, to see the handwriting on the wall that all these things are closing in on him.”
Manuel, a former Michigan defensive lineman who played under Bo Schembechler, has held the position of athletic director at his alma mater since January 2016. Although he didn’t hire Harbaugh, the two have collaborated for nearly eight years.
While Finebaum’s statements might be speculative, there could be some validity to his claims. Only the coming months will reveal the truth.
Jim Harbaugh is known for having a challenging personality, particularly in his interactions with superiors.
