Free Harbaugh is trending.
Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy made a notable fashion statement ahead of this Saturday’s season opener against East Carolina.
Stepping off the team bus, McCarthy sported a “Free Harbaugh” shirt, clearly expressing his disapproval of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s three-game suspension.
Two weeks prior, Michigan voluntarily imposed this suspension on Harbaugh in response to alleged violations that occurred during the COVID-19 dead period.
Michigan’s athletic director, Warde Manuel, commented on the matter, stating, “While the ongoing NCAA investigation continues, today’s announcement is our way of addressing the errors our department has acknowledged, aiming to facilitate the resolution process. We will steadfastly support Coach Harbaugh, his coaching staff, and our exceptional student-athletes. According to NCAA guidelines, we cannot provide further comments until the investigation concludes.”
The “Free Harbaugh” shirt worn by McCarthy gained attention on social media, and he wasn’t the sole player on Michigan’s roster donning this attire.

Great shirt but how about having one made instead. You might as well go the extra mile, no?
Harbaugh is anticipated to return to the sidelines on September 23rd for Michigan’s matchup against Rutgers, marking the first significant test for his team.
Even in Harbaugh’s absence for this Saturday’s game, the Wolverines are heavily favored to secure victory.
Michigan and East Carolina are scheduled to kick off at 12 p.m. ET.
