Who is the source of all this information?
Longtime Michigan insider John U. Bacon believes he has an inkling about the individual providing the media with details from the NCAA sign-stealing investigation.
During his appearance on 97.1 The Fan on Wednesday, Bacon suggested that the Wolverines are experiencing significant leaks from within the NCAA, and he pointed to a University of Michigan graduate as the possible source.
“Watch a guy named Jim Stapleton. Jim Stapleton is a Michigan alum who blackballed Harbaugh when he was trying out for the Vikings because Jim [Stapleton] was on the board of the Minnesota Vikings,” Bacon said. “He now got himself onto the NCAA infractions committee and he hates Jim Harbaugh.”
Stapleton, an attorney and former regent at Eastern Michigan, has also been a minority owner of the Minnesota Vikings since 2005. Harbaugh had interviewed for the head coaching position with the Vikings following the 2021 season.
Michigan is presently under investigation for potential use of in-person scouting and electronic methods to decipher opposing teams’ signals.
Wolverines football analyst Connor Stalions stands accused of procuring tickets for games at 12 different Big Ten programs and four schools outside the conference that were potential College Football Playoff contenders for Michigan.
Allegedly, Stalions then transferred these tickets to other individuals who used the seats to observe and record the sidelines of Michigan’s upcoming opponents, actions that are both violations of NCAA rules.
This scandal will undoubtedly influence the way advanced scouting is conducted at the collegiate level.
