There’s a new grandpa in town, and it’s none other than Michael Strahan. The “Good Morning America” host and former NFL star proudly announced during “Fox NFL Sunday” that he has officially become a grandfather.
Strahan’s eldest daughter, Tanita, recently welcomed a baby boy named Onyx, according to a report by People.
While sharing the exciting news, Strahan kept additional details about his grandson private. Tanita had not publicly revealed she was expecting, making the announcement a pleasant surprise for fans. Representatives for Strahan have yet to respond to requests for further comment, but the former football player’s joy was evident during the broadcast.
Strahan, 52, shares his daughter Tanita, 32, with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins. The couple was married from 1992 to 1996. Tanita, who works as an illustrator, was born in Germany but spent much of her childhood in Texas before her parents’ divorce. Following their separation, Tanita briefly moved back to Europe with her mother before returning to the U.S. to attend high school.
After completing her early education, Tanita relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her passion for design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Her artistic career has flourished, with her work reflecting a creative spirit that complements her father’s high-profile success.

In addition to Tanita, Strahan and Hutchins share a son, Michael Strahan Jr., who is 29. Strahan also has twin daughters, 19-year-old Isabella and Sophia, from his second marriage to Jean Muggli, whom he divorced in 2006 after seven years of marriage.
Strahan’s family has been through a lot over the past year, particularly surrounding his daughter Isabella’s battle with brain cancer. In October 2023, Isabella was diagnosed after suffering from headaches and nausea during her freshman year at the University of Southern California. An MRI revealed a rapidly growing, 4-centimeter tumor, which required emergency surgery.
The devoted father took time away from his busy schedule to be by Isabella’s side as she underwent surgery and multiple treatments, including chemotherapy. Strahan often shared updates with his fans and expressed his immense pride in Isabella’s strength. He referred to her as a “superwoman” when she completed her chemotherapy in June, and just a month later, doctors declared her cancer-free.
With Isabella’s health improving, she returned to USC in August to resume her studies after taking a leave of absence, marking another milestone in the Strahan family’s journey of resilience.
As Michael Strahan adjusts to his new role as a grandfather, it’s clear that family is at the heart of everything he does.
From supporting his daughters through life’s challenges to celebrating the arrival of his grandson Onyx, Strahan’s love for his children and grandchildren remains unwavering.
