This week, reports emerged indicating that Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter is facing an investigation regarding betting irregularities.
The investigation revolves around prop bets linked to games played on Jan. 26 and March 20, both of which featured Porter.
In response to the situation, Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr., Jontay’s brother, spoke out on Wednesday night. He defended Jontay’s character, citing his deep passion for basketball as a reason why he wouldn’t engage in gambling activities.
“I’ve known my brother my whole life,” Michael Porter Jr. stated, as reported by ESPN. “I know what type of dude he is, and I know he’s excited to play basketball, and I highly doubt he would do anything to put that in jeopardy.”

Michael Porter Jr. also addressed the unfortunate influence of sports betting on fans’ perceptions of the game.
“In recent years, you hear people in the crowd mentioning what they need you to score or not score,” the NBA champion remarked. “Every night, you’re disappointing someone. You’re disappointing people if you score too much because they may have bet on the under, and you’re disappointing people if you didn’t score enough.”
The NBA has initiated an investigation into Jontay Porter’s situation, with updates on the matter pending.
Jontay Porter has been contributing an average of 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Raptors this season, with his last appearance on March 22nd.
