Michael Jordan knows how to collect.
For years, fans have been fascinated by Michael Jordan’s gambling exploits.
In a recent interview with former Bulls assistant Johnny Bach on There Is No Next, another intriguing story has come to light.
Bach revealed that during a flight on a road game, Jordan’s former teammate Jack Haley lost a considerable sum of $17,000 to Jordan in a card game.
Unable to pay the debt, Jordan suggested that Haley reach out to someone he called “Daddy Warbucks,” who happened to own a restaurant.
The next morning, Haley’s father met with Jordan and handed over the money.
In a stern warning to Haley, Jordan allegedly said,
“Don’t mess with me, Jack, if you can’t pay up. I don’t want your money, but if you lose, Daddy has to come with that money in cash.”
Jordan addressed the gambling rumors in the past.
In his rookie year, Jack Haley earned a modest salary of $150,000, and throughout his 9-year career, he accumulated less than $3 million. However, all the hard work and perseverance paid off when Haley achieved the ultimate success of winning a championship alongside Jordan and the Bulls during the 1995-1996 season.
It all worked out.
