Cam McCormick has been granted an extraordinary ninth year of college eligibility by the NCAA, marking his second season in Miami.
Reflecting on the experience, McCormick expressed gratitude, stating to ESPN, “I’m blessed that it was me to go through it because a lot of people would have folded under the pressure — both mentally and physically. But it’s pushed me to be a better person and teammate — everything. I’ve learned so much from every year and everything I’ve had to overcome.”
McCormick embarked on his college football journey in 2016 as a three-star prospect for the Oregon Ducks.

However, a redshirted true freshman year and multiple seasons eligible for a medical redshirt have led to this unprecedented ninth year.
McCormick, who began his career at Oregon in 2016, missed significant parts of four different seasons due to injury, which along with his redshirt year and the COVID year of 2020 allowed him to petition the NCAA for an unprecedented ninth season of eligibility.
Accumulating 231 career yards and 4 career touchdowns, McCormick transferred to Miami before the 2023 season to reunite with coach Mario Cristobal. The Hurricanes concluded the season with a 7-6 record, concluding with a 31-24 loss to Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl.
This situation adds a whole new dimension to the concept of a “fifth-year senior.”
