The Miami-Dade Police Department has released over 105 minutes of body-cam footage from the incident on Sunday, in which Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained and handcuffed. The footage offers insight into the tense situation that unfolded near Hard Rock Stadium just hours before the Dolphins’ Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to police, Hill was stopped due to alleged speeding and reckless driving. In the video, officers can be seen handcuffing the Pro Bowl wideout, who later expressed confusion over the encounter. Hill said in a post-game interview that he had “no idea” why he was being detained and maintained that he had been respectful throughout the interaction.
Miami Dolphins officials responded to the incident, condemning what they described as the “overly aggressive and violent conduct” directed at Hill and other players who were present. In a formal statement, the team called for “swift and strong action” against the officers involved, urging the Miami-Dade Police Department to take accountability for their actions. Hill also took to social media, writing “Let’s make a change” on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the body-cam footage was released, signaling his disapproval of how the situation was handled.
The incident did not end with Hill alone. His teammate, Calais Campbell, was also briefly handcuffed while attempting to intervene and de-escalate the situation. The footage shows Campbell trying to assist but getting drawn into the altercation before being released shortly thereafter.

Following the release of the footage, the Miami-Dade Police Department announced an internal review of the incident and placed one of the officers involved on administrative duties while the investigation is ongoing. The department emphasized that the decision to release the footage was made out of a commitment to “transparency and maintaining public trust.”
Steadman Stahl, the president of the South Florida police union, defended the officers’ actions, stating that Hill was “not immediately cooperative,” which prompted them to place him in handcuffs.
According to Stahl, when Hill refused to sit on the ground as instructed, the officers redirected him to the ground to ensure their safety. Stahl added that the situation was resolved within minutes, and Hill was ultimately issued two traffic citations for careless driving and a seat belt violation before being released.
Despite the citations, Hill and his team remain critical of how the situation unfolded. The Dolphins’ statement, along with Hill’s public comments, highlights growing concerns over the treatment of athletes and other public figures during interactions with law enforcement.
As the internal investigation moves forward, the situation continues to draw significant attention both locally and nationally, with fans and analysts weighing in on the broader implications for police conduct and athlete-police relations.
