As the Los Angeles Rams prepare for their Wild Card showdown against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, quarterback Matthew Stafford might have to tackle his playoff preparation without his family by his side.
Kelly Stafford, Matthew’s wife, revealed on her Morning After podcast that she’s battling a severe case of the flu—one that has already spread to two of the couple’s four daughters. The timing couldn’t be worse, with the Rams’ playoff hopes on the line.
A Household Under Siege
“I can’t think straight,” Kelly admitted during her podcast. “I currently believe I have the flu. Two of my daughters have the flu.”
The situation has escalated to the point where Kelly was bedridden this past Sunday, leaving Matthew to keep his distance to avoid catching the illness.
“I was unable to move,” she added, describing how the illness has taken its toll.
A Bold Plan to Protect the Rams’ Playoff Hopes
With the flu sweeping through the household, Kelly is considering an extreme measure to protect Matthew’s health: temporarily moving her and the children out of the family home.
“If all my kids have the flu, I don’t think we should be in this house with him,” Kelly explained, via Us Weekly. “I know everyone’s like, ‘Why would y’all move? There’s five of you and one of him.’ Because all of his work stuff and his film room and everything is here. So we would just get out of here. I think that is on the table right now.”
Kelly emphasized the seriousness of the situation, revealing that their home is dealing with “105-degree fevers going around.” Her priority is ensuring Matthew stays healthy ahead of the high-stakes playoff game.
“We can’t have Matthew with that going into the playoffs,” she said. “So we’re going to do our best to not let him get that.”
A Selfless Sacrifice
The idea of relocating herself and their daughters during such a difficult time highlights Kelly’s commitment to her husband’s career and the team’s success. Rams fans, known for their loyalty, would surely appreciate her sacrifice if it helps keep their star quarterback in top shape for the game.

The Road Ahead
The Rams host the Vikings on Monday night at SoFi Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. Both teams are fighting for a chance to advance, and Stafford’s performance will be crucial to the Rams’ postseason hopes.
In the meantime, Kelly and her family will do everything possible to avoid jeopardizing Matthew’s health. Whether it’s isolating at home or temporarily moving out, the Staffords are determined to keep the flu from derailing their playoff aspirations.
Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for Kelly and her daughters—and a flu-free Matthew Stafford when the Rams take the field.
