Madeline Gaudreau, the pregnant wife of Matthew Gaudreau, has vowed to stay strong for their unborn son after the devastating loss of her husband and his brother, Johnny Gaudreau. The two brothers were tragically killed by a suspected drunk driver, leaving their family and loved ones in deep mourning.
In a heartfelt and emotional Instagram post, Madeline expressed her grief and the immense pain she feels in the wake of her husband’s death. “I have no words. I just miss you. I don’t know my life without you,” she wrote, sharing her sorrow with her followers. Expecting the couple’s first child, Madeline is determined to carry on for the sake of their unborn son, finding strength in the love Matthew had for her. “You are the best thing about me,” she continued. “I know you are watching down in just as much pain as I am looking up. I will keep going for you and our son. I love you so much, Matthew.”
Madeline also reflected on the special bond between Matthew and his brother Johnny, who were inseparable throughout their lives. In another Instagram post, she paid tribute to their close relationship, saying, “It was always Matty & John. I can’t even put into words the bond these two had and right now I don’t have the strength.” She described them as each other’s biggest supporters, highlighting how much Matthew looked up to Johnny, particularly admiring the way he was a father to his two young children, Noa and Johnny.

The tragic loss of both brothers has brought some comfort to Madeline in knowing that Matthew and Johnny are together, just as they always were. “I know they are still messing with each other up there and will continue to look over their families,” she wrote. Madeline also expressed her deep connection with Johnny’s wife, Meredith Gaudreau, acknowledging the shared heartbreak they now endure. “We will forever share this extreme heartbreak and terrible bond… however, the boys couldn’t have picked stronger women as their wives and mothers of their children,” she added.
Madeline’s tribute also recognized the legacy that Matthew and Johnny have left behind through their children. “They blessed us with children… through them we will always have a part of them earth side with us forever,” she shared, finding solace in the fact that their kids will carry on their fathers’ memories.
Concluding her tribute, Madeline expressed her love for her family, writing, “I love you my handsome husband, I love you John, I love you Meredith, I love you Noa, I love you Johnny, and I love you baby Tripp.”
The tragic incident occurred last Thursday when Matthew and Johnny were biking on the side of a road in their hometown of Salem County, New Jersey. The brothers were struck and killed by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Sean M. Higgins, who was allegedly attempting to pass two slow-moving vehicles at the time. According to police reports, Higgins, 43, had a “strong odor” of alcohol on his breath and admitted to consuming five or six beers before driving. He failed a sobriety test and has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide. Higgins is currently in custody.
Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau were pronounced dead at the scene. Matthew was 29, and Johnny was 31. The brothers were set to attend their sister Katie Gaudreau’s wedding as groomsmen the following day. The wedding ceremony and reception were canceled after the tragic news broke.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Madeline’s sister, Holland Korbitz, launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Madeline and her unborn son, Tripp, as well as to cover funeral expenses. “In this unimaginably difficult time, we are coming together to support Matthew’s wife, Madeline, and their growing baby Tripp, and help alleviate some of the financial burdens they now face,” Korbitz wrote on the fundraising page, which has raised over $500,000 as of Monday.
