A Marshall player found himself at the center of an unexpected altercation with a stadium worker on Saturday, resulting in a rather bizarre post-game scene. Thundering Herd defensive back Josh Moten was involved in a heated exchange with a Sun Belt staff member following Marshall’s 42-35 win over Old Dominion at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia.
The altercation escalated to the point where the staff member, who appeared to be a ball boy, was knocked to the ground.
The incident drew the attention of several nearby individuals, who rushed over to break up the scuffle.
The strange confrontation seemed to stem from an interaction at the end of the game, when the staffer attempted to knock the football out of Moten’s hands.
Moten did not take kindly to the action, and tempers flared, leading to the physical exchange. The situation quickly spiraled, with the staffer ending up on the ground before order was eventually restored.

Moten took to social media early on Sunday to address the incident, issuing an apology for his actions.
He admitted that his “emotions got the best of me” and expressed regret for allowing his frustration to boil over into a physical confrontation. “I apologize to the Sun Belt staffer and my teammates for my actions,” Moten wrote. “That wasn’t a reflection of who I am as a player or a person.”
Despite the drama off the field, Moten delivered an impressive performance during the game. He recorded five total tackles and snagged an interception, helping Marshall secure the win. The interception was Moten’s fourth of the 2024 season, solidifying his status as one of Marshall’s top defensive players this year.
The incident has certainly cast a shadow over what should have been a celebratory moment for Moten and the Thundering Herd.
As Marshall continues its push through the Sun Belt Conference, Moten will need to keep his emotions in check to ensure that his focus remains on the field, where he has been an instrumental part of the team’s success this season.
