Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s critical error on Monday night may have jeopardized the Kansas City Chiefs’ chance at victory, but the seasoned wide receiver refuses to let it dampen his spirits.
During the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, with less than two minutes on the clock and the Chiefs trailing 21-17, Patrick Mahomes threw a precise deep pass to Valdes-Scantling, who had outmaneuvered Bradley Roby in man coverage.
Although the pass was accurate and poised for an effortless touchdown, Valdes-Scantling dropped the ball, as evident in the video footage.
On Tuesday, Valdes-Scantling conveyed a positive message on his X account, stating, “I’m grateful, I’ll be better. And I appreciate the criticism and the support. God put this on me because he knew I could handle it. Gratitude for everything that comes with it.”
However, this doesn’t imply that MVS took the mistake lightly. After the Chiefs’ defeat, he was observed venting his frustration by smashing his helmet on his way to the locker room.

Drops have plagued the Chiefs throughout the season, with a league-worst 26 drops, surpassing the next team by six — the New York Jets, who have 20 drops this season.
Kansas City’s second-half performance has also been dismal, with no points scored in the last three games and an average of just 5.3 points per game in the second half, ranking them last in the NFL.
For the Chiefs to embark on another deep postseason journey, they must significantly improve their late-game performance. Above all, eliminating dropped passes that should be caught is imperative.
