Who could forget Tebow mania?
Former NFL quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow were teammates during the 2012 season with the New York Jets. Despite initial awkwardness, Sanchez, who had led the Jets to two AFC Championship Games in 2009 and 2010, spoke positively about Tebow.
Sanchez acknowledged Tebow’s hard work in the weight room and at practice, describing him as a good teammate. However, he highlighted the challenges posed by having two quarterbacks in the same room, emphasizing the need for a clear role definition and team messaging.
Despite the Jets finishing the 2012 season with a 6-10 record and Sanchez posting 2,883 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions, the two quarterbacks maintained a positive relationship.

“He works really hard in the weight room,” Sanchez said, (first transcribed by On3). “He works really hard at practice. He is a really good teammate, but it’s difficult in the quarterback room, because there can only be one. You have two, you have none. And it also sends messages to the team like, okay, we’re signing this other really good player. What’s the role? How do we define these roles for these two players? Who’s our guy? Who are we following? And so it can make life difficult but I mean, he’s a hell of a dude.”
Tebow, though not extensively utilized during the season, appeared in 12 games, throwing for 39 yards and rushing for 102 yards.
Despite the team’s struggles that season, the camaraderie between Sanchez and Tebow remained intact, with Tebow’s dedication to weightlifting and football making him a valued teammate.
