A tragic story out of Miami.
Fox Sports South Florida’s Andy Slater is reporting that a man assisting another driver stuck in the middle of the road was struck by a car driven by Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith.
The man is in critical condition and suffered a partial leg amputation.
The 27-year-old Highsmith has been ruled out of Wednesday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs due to “personal reasons.”
Highsmith was heading home Tuesday night after the Heat defeated the Orlando Magic in Miami when the accident occurred.
The Heat released a statement on the incident saying, “Our hearts go out to those who were injured.”
Highsmith — an undrafted player out of Wheeling University — has been a member of the Heat since 2021.
