New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers recently shared an encouraging update on social media after sustaining a concussion during Thursday night’s game. Nabers was injured in the fourth quarter of the Giants’ 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The rookie wideout hit his head hard on the turf while attempting to make a challenging sideline catch on fourth down. He landed face-first without being able to brace his fall, and lay motionless for a few seconds, raising concern among teammates and fans.
Medical staff quickly attended to Nabers, escorting him to the locker room for evaluation. The Giants soon confirmed that he had suffered a concussion and would not return to the game. You can view the play here.
Despite the frightening scene, Nabers later took to Instagram to reassure fans, writing on his story, “All good. Thanks for the prayers,” followed by a praying hands emoji.
His message came as a relief to many, but it contrasted slightly with what he communicated to his teammates immediately after the game. According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Giants linebacker Brian Burns shouted across the locker room, asking Nabers, “You good?” Nabers, shaking his head no, indicated that he wasn’t fully recovered.
The No. 6 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, Nabers has been off to an electrifying start in his rookie season. Before exiting the game, he had already racked up 12 catches for 115 yards.
That performance added to his league-leading stats, with 35 receptions for 386 yards on the season. He also has 3 touchdowns, demonstrating his ability to consistently beat defenders before and after the catch.
The Giants’ Thursday night game means Nabers will have a few extra days to pass through the NFL’s concussion protocol before their Week 5 matchup. Fans and teammates alike will be eagerly awaiting his return, as Nabers has quickly become a key contributor to the Giants’ offense.
