A pair of Bill Belichick’s former quarterbacks had a lighthearted moment on the ESPYs red carpet, sharing a laugh over the New England Patriots coach’s dating life.
Cam Newton, who served as the red carpet host, took the opportunity to chat with his former teammate Mac Jones. Right off the bat, Newton brought up their former coach, who has been romantically involved with 23-year-old cheerleader Jordon Hudson.
“I have to ask this—our former coach, his dating choice right now. What are we doing? Do we approve?” Newton joked as he and Jones burst into laughter.
Jones, still chuckling, replied, “I need your opinion first.”
Newton didn’t hold back, responding with a mock-serious expression, “I’m like, no, I don’t approve. I am not even going to lie, but just to see him doing what he’s doing is like [shocked look].”
Jones added, “Hey bro, good for him, right? It is what it is.”

Belichick, 72, has been dating Hudson for about a year, and the couple recently celebrated the Fourth of July together. The news has sparked various reactions, but for Newton and Jones, it was a moment of humor and camaraderie.
The conversation also touched on their brief time as teammates. Newton and Jones were both with the Patriots for the 2021 season. Newton, a former league MVP, was re-signed to compete with the then-rookie Jones for the starting quarterback position. However, Newton was cut at the end of training camp, paving the way for Jones to take over.
Reflecting on his experiences, Jones shared his current mindset with Newton, saying, “I’m great. What I learned from you: have fun with this s–t, bro. Have fun with it. I’m in Jacksonville, back home, having fun.”
Jones had a challenging 2023 season with the Patriots, during which he was benched multiple times by Belichick. This offseason, he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars, giving him a fresh start in a familiar environment.
Newton, who returned to the Carolina Panthers in 2021 and started five games, seemed genuinely pleased for Jones. Their interaction on the red carpet highlighted the enduring bond between the two quarterbacks despite the twists and turns in their careers.
As the two former Patriots quarterbacks laughed and reminisced, it was clear that both have moved forward with their careers while maintaining a sense of humor about the unique experiences they shared under the legendary coach Bill Belichick.
