Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has been at the center of controversy in recent weeks due to remarks made during a college commencement speech.
In his speech, Butker suggested that the “most important” title for women is “homemaker” rather than any professional achievement or job title.
Butker’s comments have sparked significant debate, with longtime sports host Michelle Beadle voicing her strong disapproval on her podcast “Over the Top” with Peter Rosenberg.
“As a woman, I think everything he said was garbage,” Beadle began. “But I think the fact that there were women in that audience who were not okay with it, what the hell dude?”
Beadle criticized Butker for implying that the women’s value would be more in their roles at home or in marriage rather than in their careers, especially to a graduating class.
“Go f— yourself,” Beadle said. “And by the way, it’s also my freedom of speech to say go f— yourself.”
The NFL has distanced itself from Butker’s remarks, clarifying that his views do not reflect those of the league and that he is entitled to his opinion.
A petition calling for Butker to be dismissed from the Chiefs has garnered nearly 300,000 signatures, but there is no indication that the team will take disciplinary action against him.
Butker is expected to join his Chiefs teammates for the 2024 season, and it remains to be seen how fans will react to him during games this year.
