Bad news for a longtime NBA guard.
Former NBA guard Will Bynum has been sentenced to 18 months in prison in an insurance fraud case.
Bynum played in the NBA for the Golden State Warriors in 2006, the Detroit Pistons from 2008 to 2014, and the Washington Wizards in 2015.
Bynum, 41, received his sentence in Manhattan federal court, following a November conviction for conspiracy to make false statements related to NBA players’ submission of fraudulent dental and medical claims to the NBA Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan.

Over 20 individuals, including former NBA players, have been convicted in this case.
Bynum, who had a career average of 8.1 points and 3.3 assists in 360 games, was directed to forfeit $182,000 and pay restitution of the same amount by Judge Valerie E. Caproni during sentencing.
Court documents reveal that Bynum participated in a scheme, alongside former NBA players Terrence Williams and Keyon Dooling among others, between 2018 and 2019 to defraud the plan.
Williams and Dooling, who pleaded guilty, received sentences of 10 years and 30 months in prison, respectively.
Authorities stated that Bynum received falsified invoices from another ex-NBA player, alleging $200,000 in medical services at a Los Angeles-area chiropractor, which were never provided.
During the trial, Bynum testified, but prosecutors argued he committed perjury and obstructed justice.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams emphasized that Bynum’s conviction sends a clear message that those engaged in fraud and obstruction of justice will face severe consequences.
