The Panthers find themselves in the search for a new head coach following another disappointing season.
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is emerging as a top candidate for head coaching positions in the upcoming offseason, given the notable success of his offense this season. While it’s premature to pinpoint Johnson’s destination, it’s clear that the Panthers are interested in his services.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Panthers owner David Tepper has a keen interest in Ben Johnson for the 2024 hiring cycle, with Russini noting, “A league source said Tepper has his eye on Detroit’s offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who was his first choice last hiring cycle.”
The potential for Johnson to construct a successful offense around Bryce Young could make Carolina an appealing option for him, although his current stance on the matter is uncertain.
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported this week that Johnson’s reported asking price is around $15 million per year. However, Johnson’s agent refuted this claim, deeming it “100% false and irresponsible.”
With multiple potential suitors vying for Johnson’s services this offseason, the Panthers will need to present an enticing offer if they are to secure his services.
