Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy is facing criticism online after he implied that NBA legend and Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo, who has been married nearly 30 years, was unfaithful about eight years ago.
Mutombo, an eight-time All-Star with an 18-season career, married his wife Rose shortly after they met in 1995.
During the conversation that sparked the controversy, McCoy recounted an interaction where a woman praised a man who “doesn’t just take me shopping; he takes me to France.” When she revealed the man was Dikembe Mutombo, McCoy expressed his shock and understanding given Mutombo’s grand gestures.

However, fans were quick to express their disapproval of McCoy’s comments, pointing out that it was inappropriate to bring up personal allegations, especially in a public forum. Criticisms ranged from accusations of violating “man code” by unnecessarily name-dropping in a potentially damaging situation, to calling him out for trying to earn “cool points” by finishing a gossip-laden story.
One user even highlighted McCoy’s reputation for being outspoken, noting, “you must not know his actual nickname is Shady McCoy…he will name-drop in a minute.”
Overall, the consensus among fans is clear: McCoy’s decision to share such a story was in poor taste, regardless of his intentions.
