It seems like just yesterday when LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were awkwardly celebrating their in-season tournament title. However, since then, their fortunes have taken a nosedive.
Despite holding a 13-point lead over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night, the Lakers couldn’t maintain it, stumbling late in a 127-113 defeat. This marked their fourth consecutive loss, the 10th in their last 13 games, bringing their regular season record to 17-19.
Expressing his frustration after the game, LeBron bluntly stated, “I mean, we just suck right now,” as reported by ESPN.
The team’s performance is so lackluster that LeBron believes there are college athletes who could step in and contribute immediately. More pointedly, he thinks his son, Bronny James, could join the Lakers and make an impact from Day 1.
“He could play for us right now. Easy,” LeBron asserted, as quoted by Claire De Lune. The statement could be interpreted as either praise for Bronny or a criticism of the Lakers, or perhaps a combination of both.

Bronny, a freshman at USC, faced a health scare over the summer that jeopardized his athletic career. However, he made a remarkable recovery and debuted for the Trojans in December.
In his first six games, albeit without any starts, Bronny has displayed a 50 percent shooting accuracy, averaging 7.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. While these figures are not exceptional, LeBron’s confidence in Bronny’s ability to contribute to the struggling Lakers is open to interpretation and may not be an unequivocal endorsement, even if well-intentioned.
