It’s no secret that all-time NBA leading point scorer and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is a fan of the Ohio State University.
That’s why it comes as little surprise that new Ohio State head basketball coach Jake Diebler received a shoutout from James upon being officially hired.

James reposted Ohio State’s graphic on his Instagram story and wrote “Congrats Diebs!!!!” in all caps.
James of course went straight from high school to the NBA in 2003, but has repeatedly stated that Ohio State would have been his school of choice had he chosen to attend college.
Ohio State basketball had a disappointing season in 2023-24 as seventh-year head coach Chris Holtzmann was fired in February.
Diebler took over on an interim basis and led the Buckeyes to a 6-2 record thereafter.
On March 17, it was announced that the 37-year-old Diebler was hired as their full-time head coach and he signed a five-year contract through 2029 with an annual base salary of $2.5 million.
Diebler has strong ties to Ohio State basketball as he has served as an assistant coach since 2019 and his brother, Jon Diebler, is the Buckeyes’ all-time leader in three-point field goals made with 374.
