LeBron James, the standout player for the Los Angeles Lakers, was clearly not in the mood to entertain a reporter seeking a quick comment on Friday.
The Lakers faced a 127-113 defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, marking their fourth consecutive loss. James, not in a friendly disposition after the defeat, demonstrated his frustration when asked about Ricky Rubio’s retirement, which was announced the day before.
“I’m not really up for answering that question right now, but I want to acknowledge Ricky. Congratulations on an impressive career. If my response seems lacking sincerity in this video, it’s because we suffered another tough loss, and I apologize,” stated James, with profanity edited for clarity (LBS).
He went on to explain the unfortunate timing of the question, emphasizing, “It was just bad timing from the interviewer, and it’s not about Ricky.”
James’ frustration was understandable given the circumstances. The Lakers and Grizzlies were tied at 94 going into the fourth quarter, but the Lakers faltered in the late stages, leading to their third consecutive double-digit loss.
Despite the team’s struggles, James individually contributed 32 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals in the game against the Grizzlies.
