Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert compete in just about every facet of their lives.
Both billionaires hail from the Detroit metro area, are CEOs of rival mortgage lenders, and are of course owners of an NBA team.
Ishibia is the CEO and chairman of United Wholesale Mortgage while Gilbert is co-founder and chairman of Rocket Mortgage.
Now, a crude voicemail has been leaked of Ishbia going off on the rival business that Gilbert owns.
“We f**king took those c**ksuckers down. F**k them, and we’re gonna keep f**king sticking it to ’em forever. F**k those guys, we’re number one,” Ishbia said in the voicemail.“
This leaked voicemail makes for perfect timing as Ishibia’s Suns are scheduled to play Gilbert’s Cavaliers in Phoenix on ESPN.
Ishbia and Gilbert have a well-documented feud that extends beyond the NBA.
When Ishbia was preparing to buy the Suns in 2023, the NBA owners needed to approve the sale. It passed 29-0 with one owner declining to vote. That owner was of course Gilbert.
Mat’s responses on his feud with Gilbert have varied.
Mat’s responses have ranged from, “He doesn’t like me, and I don’t like him” to “I’m glad everyone gets to see what kind of man he is.”
You can probably bet that Ishbia will be in attendance for Wednesday night’s game between the Suns and Cavaliers in Phoenix, and you better believe that Ishbia will want a win more than anything.
