Lane Kiffin earned Morgan Wallen’s respect in Oxford after the Ole Miss football coach politely refused one of the country star’s playful requests at his concert.
During the Saturday show of Wallen’s “One Night At A Time” tour, Wallen, a Tennessee fan, challenged Kiffin to don a Peyton Manning Volunteers jersey. Kiffin, standing firm with his team loyalty, declined the offer.
“I tried to get Lane Kiffin to wear a Peyton Manning jersey, and he said no,” Wallen announced to the audience. “So I think y’all oughta keep him around for a while.”

Kiffin later addressed the incident on social media, posting, “Sorry, couldn’t do it … #24REBS … @OleMissFB.”
Kiffin, who briefly coached the Vols in 2009 before a high-profile departure to USC, has since returned to the SEC and faced his former team only once as a head coach—securing a win against Tennessee in Knoxville in 2021.
Ole Miss recorded an impressive 11-2 last season, which included a significant victory over No. 10 Penn State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl—marking the first 11-win season in the program’s history.
Since taking the reins at Ole Miss, Kiffin has revitalized the football program, making him a celebrated figure in Mississippi. He aims to continue his success in the competitive SEC in the upcoming 2024 season.
